Reduced expression of the frataxin (FXN) protein causes this disorder. Mutation of the FXN gene creates a trinucleotide expansion(GAA) and increases R-loop formation, stopping the transcription process and reducing the expression. Modified oligonucleotides can prevent the R- loop formation to elevate FXN protein expression as a potential drug treatment. Email: [email protected] |
