My Experience:
The Green Fellowship program was really challenging but extremely rewarding. What surprised me the most was how independent I had to be. Many times I would have to make decisions regarding my project without really discussing my ideas with others. Although this sounds scary, it proved to be the best thing for me. Though working independently provides a lot of leeway, it also causes you to seclude yourself from others in the lab. After speaking with other Green Fellows it seems that a common trend in research is seclusion. A lot of people prefer this but I missed interacting with others. Throughout my time as a Green Fellow I gained skills and knowledge that I wouldn't have been able to gain in the classroom or in the labs at school. After the program ended I was invited back to continue my research in the same lab. Overall I'm really glad I participated in this program because it really did change my life. I met some really great people, and I found a new passion. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. |
