Did the GF program impact your career decision? If yes, how so?
Absolutely! I was involved in some part-time research at UTD before Green Fellowship in Dr. Sherry's lab but this program gave me a glimpse of what full-time research looks like and what it has to offer in terms of career opportunities. My incipient interest in research was bolstered by this experience which gave me the impetus to apply to MD-PhD programs and since then I have never looked back. I matriculated into the UTMB-UT Austin Combined MD-PhD program in Fall 2012 and I will graduate in a few months in May 2020 after which the plan is to complete a residency in Internal Medicine and then a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology and then start a career in academic medicine with a heavy research focus.
